Darcie Cohee
Hometown: Danville, IL
Major: Computer Science/IT
Interests: Web design, art, computers, baking
She plans on transferring to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale to pursue a bachelor's degree this May, but Darcie Cohee is making the most of her remaining time at Parkland College. The Danville native is on the Dean's List, is a member of the campus' Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapter, is a member of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges, and works as a part-time microcomputer support specialist for the Campus Technologies department. Darcie finds the pace "challenging, as technology is constantly changing," but also appreciates the knowledge and opportunities she has gained at Parkland. "I love that I can both attend classes plus work in my field, all in the same place."
Darcie draws inspiration and the drive to be "determined to succeed in a male-dominated field" from Campus Technologies' Kathy Ehmann, a microcomputer support specialist and Darcie's supervisor, as well as other women in the computer technology field. "If it weren't for them, I would not be where I am now. I've had my ups and downs, but I refuse to give up."
If you don't see Darcie walking around downtown Champaign, or visiting Meadowbrook Park in Urbana, listening to rock or alternative music, she will probably be at home, cooking! "I probably have more kitchen-related items (pans, utensils, etc.) than any other college student!" Gourmet waffles, anyone?
