Think early August is the right time to stop by Parkland College and get your fall classes? It’s not; in fact, waiting can slow—even hinder—your progress. So here’s a little-known tip: Late June/early July is a GREAT period to register for fall courses. Why?

More choices on courses. It’s a fact: Class pickings become slimmer once August rolls around. You might be forced to take that (yikes!) 7 a.m. English 101 course instead of the lovely 10 a.m. course you could have had only weeks earlier. Don’t laugh; it happens more often than you think. (Just ask the students in 7 a.m. English.)

Allows financial aid to pay your tuition on time. If you haven't filled out your FAFSA and been accepted to Parkland, it could take a month or more to receive an award notification. Waiting longer means you’ll have to pay out of pocket when the
August 6 deadline for fall payment hits.

Lines? What lines? Right now, getting a walk-in appointment at the Counseling and Advising office is a
breeze. Talking to advising now can save you hours (yes, hours) of waiting in those early August lines.
Look, registering for college is not like buying a new pair of shoes. It’s a process that takes time and involves lots of requirements: applying, sending in transcripts, taking assessments, academic advising, new student orientation, etc. So why not get all of this done as fast as you can and avoid the hassles? That way, you’ll be relaxed, books in hand, as you walk into your (late morning) classes at Parkland this fall!
