Parkland College's Dr. Stanley Cross, a part-time clinical dentist set to retire at the end of the summer semester, leaves a behind a 24-year legacy of care within the school's Dental Hygiene program.

"He has been a pillar of our program since 1993," said Kim Pankau, interim department chair for Parkland's Health Professions division. "He has inspired and positively affected the lives of hundreds of our students, and they all love him. Dr. Cross is approachable, knowledgeable, a goodhearted man, and an all-around great educator. We're truly going to miss him."

Having retired after 40 years from full-time private practice in Tuscola, Cross then devoted the next 24 years to Parkland's program, working 1.5 days a week every semester. His older brother, Dr. Robert Cross, helped start Parkland's Dental Hygiene program back in the late 1960s.

"The time he has dedicated to student achievement and community outreach, even after retiring from his own career, makes him truly worth celebrating," Pankau said.

Cross will enjoy a celebration from the program's faculty, staff, and students on July 5, his last day of work at Parkland.
