Step into bygone eras of music and dance during “Sing On, Dance On”, a joint performance of the Parkland Chamber Singers, Parkland Chorus, and special guest The Central Illinois English Country Dancers, on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. at McKinley Presbyterian Church, 809 S. Fifth Street in Champaign.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
Both the Parkland Chamber Singers and the Parkland Chorus are conducted by Barbara Zachow; accompanists are Kristina Engberg for the Chamber Singers and Sunny Choo for the Chorus. The choirs will sing selections about dancing or based on dance tunes, as well as selections from Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 52.
The Central Illinois English Country Dancers are affiliated with the Country Dance and Song Society and the Urbana Park District and have been holding dances in Champaign-Urbana since 1995. In addition to monthly dances at the Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana, the group also holds several special events each year. English country dance consists mainly of the dances and music that were popular in England during the 17th and 18th centuries.
