Hundreds to compete in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, advanced subjects

More than 800 area high school students representing 26 schools will compete in the 2012 Parkland-ICTM Regional High School Math Contest, set for Saturday, February 25 at the Parkland College campus. This is the 37th year that Parkland has hosted the contest, 31 of which have been in conjunction with the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM).

Most events begin at 9 a.m. with students competing in individual events in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. There are also a variety of team events for two, five, or eight members and an oral competition for advanced subjects.

The contest's awards ceremony will be held at the Dodds Athletic Center (formerly Parkland gym) at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Winners, as determined by the state contest committee, will go on to the state finals to be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, May 5.
