More than 520 area high school students representing 17 schools will compete in the 2016 Parkland-ICTM Regional High School Math Contest, set for Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Parkland College campus. This is the 41st year that Parkland has hosted the contest, 35 of which have been in conjunction with the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM).
Most events begin at 9:15 a.m. with students competing in individual events in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. There are also a variety of team events for two, five, or eight members and an oral competition for advanced subjects.
The contest's awards ceremony will be held at the Dodds Athletic Center (formerly Parkland gym) at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Winners, as determined by the state contest committee, will go on to the state finals to be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, May 7.
