Women's Soccer eliminated in final seconds

The Parkland College Women's Soccer team battled the rain and the SWIC Blue Storm for nearly 90 minutes Thursday afternoon before a controversial call with just 16 seconds left helped SWIC eliminate the Cobras 2-1 in Region 24 action.

SWIC grabbed an early 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the contest as Cassie Pruitt beat two defenders and found an open Hilary Bell who put the ball into the open net. Neither team scored for the remainder of the half and the Cobras were able to tie the match on a Jenny Musick goal with just 20 minutes remaining. The two teams battled into the final minute before the Cobras were called for a controversial hand ball with just 16 seconds remaining. Pruitt's penalty kick sailed into the right hand corner of the goal and the Cobras saw their season come to a disappointing end. SWIC (15-5-1) moves on to play top seeded Lewis and Clark (19-1) for the Region 24 Championship to be played at 12:00 on Sunday in Godfrey.
