Sophomore guard Ashley Timmerman of Pontiac has been named a 3rd Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Timmerman led the Cobras to two straight Region 24 Titles and National Championship appearances, finishing 4th in 2009 and 6th this season.
In addition to her All-American honors, Timmerman was named the M-WAC Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Region 24 selection and was named to the All-Tournament team at Nationals. She averaged 12.4 ppg, knocking down 78 three-point baskets while dishing out 4.4 assists.
Also receiving post-season honors were fellow sophomores Rani Brandon and Heather Pruemer. Brandon was selected to the All-Tournament team, was a 3rd Team All-Conference honoree, and was Honorable Mention All-Region. She averaged 10.6 ppg and 6.5 rpg and finished third in the nation in field goal percentage at 65%. Pruemer averaged 14.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg and earned 1st Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Conference recognition. Heather made 196-222 free throws for an 88% clip placing her third in the NJCAA.
Congratulations to all three young women who helped PC to a two-year record of 56-16 record, an M-WAC title and the two trips to Nationals.
Possibly showing the effects of playing their fourth game in as many days, the Parkland Women's Basketball team faltered down the stretch, falling to Pima CC of Arizona 77-65 in the 5th/6th place game of the D-II National Tourney. The game was tied at 58 with just 4:44 left before the Aztecs finished on a 19-7 run to pick up the win.
The Cobras came on fire to start the game shooting over 64% in the first half, taking a 39-34 lead to the break. PC's biggest lead was 26-16 at the halfway point of the first half and still led by nine at 47-38 with 14 minutes to go. Turnovers and uncharacteristically cold shooting at the free throw line hurt PC down the stretch. PC turned the ball over 23 times and missed 12 free throws.
Ashley Timmerman finished with 17 points to lead the way for PC while Rani Brandon added 16 points and 8 boards and Heather Pruemer tossed in 11. Tia Morrison led Pima and all scorers with 18 points. The Cobras finish the year at 28-9 good for 6th place while Pima finishes at 28-8.
Congrats to the Cobras on back to back top 6 finishes at Nationals!!
