Women's Basketball stays undefeated ahead of showdown with #1 Kirkwood

Ashley Timmerman nailed a three pointer with under 1:00 minute to go in the game to help the #7 ranked Parkland women's basketball team squeak out an 85-81 win over Illinois Valley Community College on Tuesday night. The Cobras, who had defeated IVCC 76-47 on November 7th, found the going much tougher in Oglesby as the hosts forced Parkland into 32 turnovers. The Cobras had 20 first half turnovers and faced a 43-37 halftime deficit. The contest see-sawed back and forth, with the Cobras finally taking the lead on Timmerman's three, putting the Cobras up 81-79. IVCC scored on their next possession to knot the score at 81, and Timmerman was then fouled by an IVCC player. Timmerman sank both free throws to give PC an 83-81 lead, and the PC defense held tough, on a key block by Chelsea Prosser. Heather Pruemer then swished two free throws with .3 seconds remaining to help seal the win.

Timmerman led the Cobra attack with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Pruemer added 16 points. Prosser notched her first career double-double at Parkland, tossing in 15 points and snagging 10 rebounds. Amanda Boyd contributed solid minutes off the bench, adding 8 points and 7 boards.

The win raises the women's record to 5-0 and sets up a showdown at #1 ranked Kirkwood on Friday. Kirkwood, the three-time defending national champions, will host the Cobras at 6:00 pm. Parkland will then play Mineral Area on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
