Parkland Softball Players Earn All-Conference and All-Region Honors
Six
different members of the Parkland College Softball team (38-14) have
earned All-Conference and All-Region recognition in a vote of coaches
announced today.
Four players, infielder Taylor Sloat,
first baseman Dana Coles, pitcher-outfielder Carley Kemmer, and pitcher
Morgan Hackman were named First Team All-Region. Sloat, who is also an
All-American nominee, hit. .401 for the season and led the team in home
runs (8), runs scored (52), doubles (17), triples (6), and walks (22).
Coles led the team with a .419 batting average and a .544 on-base
percentage. She also finished the season with 6 HR and 34 RBI. Kemmer,
who played both right field and pitched for the Cobras, hit .356 with 6
HR and 45 RBI. In the circle Kemmer was 14-7 with 2 saves, lead the
team with 129 strikeouts, and had an ERA of just 2.48. Hackman was the
Cobras top pitcher finishing with a 17-6 record and a team low 1.54 ERA
along with 111 strikeouts.
Four Cobras earned first team
All-MWAC and three more were named second team. Sloat, Coles, and Megan
Jones were selected to the First team along with Carley Kemmer who was
named First team as an outfielder and 2nd Team as a pitcher. Morgan
Hackman and second baseman Taylor Freeman were both named to the second
team. Freeman was the lone Cobra who earned All-Tournament recognition
at last weeks Region 24 Tournament. Freshman Megan Jones hit .313 this
season with 6 HR and a team high 47 RBI and also went 7-1 with a 3.37
ERA as a pitcher. Freeman led Parkland with 71 hits and 17 stolen bases.

Cobras use strong pitching to sweep weekend series, Clutts wins #400
The
Parkland College Softball team used strong pitching and solid defense
to sweep four M-WAC games Saturday and Sunday. A highlight from the
weekend was coach Chuck Clutts winning his 400th game at Parkland in
the Sunday opener vs John Wood. The wins leave the Cobras at 36-12 and
21-5 for the season. They will be the #2 for the upcoming Region 24
tournament at the Roundhouse Complex in Mattoon.
Game 1 PC 9 L & C 0
Morgan Hackman gained her 14 win by throwing a 1 hitter against L &
C. Hackman had complete control of the game striking out 7 and walking
none. The Cobras bats were alive with Dana Coles 3-3, 2 doubles 1 rbi,
Chelsea Rowe 2-2, Taylor Freeman 2 rbi. The big blow came of the bat of
Carley Kemmer in the third, a towering home run, # 6 on the year, over
the left field fence, driving in a pair.
Game 2 PC 2 L & C 1 (9 innings)
A strong pitching performance by Carley Kemmer (13-5) 3 hits, 8 strike
outs 3 walks, gave the Cobras the opportunity to win the game in the 9
th inning. By the international tie breaker, PC started the inning with
Danielle Abbott on 2nd, she was sacrificed to 3rd by Chelsie Rowe and
driven home with the winning run by Ashley Linhart. In the bottom of
the 9th , L & C started with a runner on 2nd, but great defense
left her at 3rd, to give PC the win.
In the game Linhart was 3-3 with the game winning rbi.
Game 3 PC 9 John Wood 1
Morgan
Hackman (15-6) threw 4 innings, striking out 7 and walking 2. PC broke
out early with 4 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back.
Offensively the Cobras were lead by Megan Jones 3-3, 2 rbi, Ashley
Linhart 2 hits, Carley Kemmer 2 hits and Danielle Abbott a double, 2
rbi and Jordan Chappell a double and 2 rbi.
Game 4 PC 3 John Wood 1
PC put the game away in the 5th with 3 runs, sparked by Taylor
Freeman's 2 out double to score Danielle Abbott and Taylor Sloat.
Freeman scored as Megan Jones drove her home. Carley Kemmer ( 14-5)
picked up the victory, striking out 8 and walking none.
