On Friday night PC lost a heartbreaking contest to Black Hawk, falling by the score of 51-49. The Cobras led most of the contest before BHC rallied for the win. Parkland's Markus Rodgers three-point attempt with 1.8 second left bounced off the front of the rim as BHC held on for the two point win. DJ Hoskins led PC with 15 points while Jeremy Paprocki added 11.
Saturday night, the #7 ranked NJCAA D-1 Southeastern BlackHawks were too much for PC to handle as they overwhelmed the Cobras 94-54. SCC raced out to 45-26 halftime lead behind 54% shooting including 5-9 from behind the arc. PC struggled from the field making just 32.8% of their shots and were out rebounded 46-34.
Jeron Lee lead a balanced attack with 16 for SCC while Brandon Hayes paced the PC offense with 13 and Hoskins and Paprocki each added 11 for the Cobras.
The road doesn't get any easier for the Parkland Men (1-4) as they travel to Illinois Valley (3-0) on Tuesday night. The Women's team (4-0) will play IVCC immediately before the men's contest.
Jeremy Paprocki and Jonathan Jackson both scored 16 points to help lead the Parkland Men's Basketball team to a 72-61 win over the Olivet Nazarene JV, earning the Cobras their first victory of the season.
Paprocki's three pointer at the buzzer at the end of the first half gave PC a 33-26 lead at the break and the Cobras started the second half with a 10-2 run to jump out to a 15 point lead. The Tigers battled back however and closed the margin to 56-54 with just 6:00 remaining. From there Paprocki hit back to back shots and Johnson's lay-up made it 63-54 and the Cobras never looked back.
Markus Rodgers added a double-double for PC scoring 12 points and hauling down 11 boards while DJ Hoskins Jr, added 9 points and Carlton Gray had 6 rebounds for the Cobras who shot 56% in the second half. Jake Hasselbring led the Tigers with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Parkland will head to Burlington, Iowa for the weekend where they will face Black Hawk on Friday night before facing Southeastern Iowa on Saturday evening.
The Parkland Men's Basketball team traveled to Sugar Grove to take on a quick and talented Waubonsee team. Despite Parkland's size advantage, the Cobra's weren't able to slow down the aggressive dribble attack of the Chiefs. The only Chief's player to score in double figures was sophomore Nigel Jackson who finished with a team and game high 25 points. The Cobras trailed by 13 at half and were able to close it to 10 before the Chiefs managed to pull away around the 8 minute mark in the second half to finish with a final score, 77-59.
Parkland had a great first half from sophomore Jeremy Paprocki who went perfect from the field (4-4) including 3-3 from behind the 3-point line. He added two free throws finishing the game with 13 points. The leading scorer for the Cobras was sophomore Jonathan Jackson with 15 points and 9 rebounds.Turnovers and second chance points were the difference in the game as the Chiefs improve to 2-0 on the season while the Cobras fall to (0-2) Parkland returns home on Wednesday to host Olivet Nazarene JV at 7pm
The Parkland Men's Basketball team put up a fierce battle into the second half but the stronger more experienced Kaskaskia Blue Devils wore down the Cobras and picked up a 91-68 victory in the season opener for both teams.
Eastern Michigan transfer Daniel Barnes paced the attack with 20 points, 6 assists and four steals for KCC while Tyquan Brown added 18 points and 8 boards. Samuel Obetoh, a transfer from Maryland-Eastern Shore added 13 points and 8 rebounds while Kevin Pettiford tossed in 12 for the Blue Devils who shot 53% from the field and 58% from inside the arc. DJ Hoskins was a bright spot for Parkland as the freshman was the only Cobra in double figures as he scored 16 points and chased down 9 rebounds. Jeremy Paprocki added 9 points while Simeon Simmons and Jake Firkins each added 8. Parkland struggled with their shooting making 33% of their shots including just 4-20 from thee-point range, and made just 58% of their shots from the charity stripe.
Parkland (0-1) will get a chance to earn their first win of the season as they travel to Waubonsee CC (1-0) on Saturday for a 2:30 contest.
The Nate Mast era will begin tonight as the Parkland Men's Basketball team will start their season with a 7:00 game against NJCAA D-1 Kaskaskia College. The Cobras return just one player from last years team but a strong group of freshman and transfers are ready to hit the court running.
