Cobras sweep John Wood in home finale

The Parkland College Baseball team used strong starting pitching and timely hitting to sweep a doubleheader from John Wood CC by the scores of 3-2 and 7-3. The pair of games are the final two home games of the year for the Cobras who will travel to John Wood in Quincy tomorrow to end the regular season.

In the opener, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie for 5 innings before the Blazers scored the games first run in the 6th. Back to back two-out singles off Clay Manering got JW on the board but it also seemed to wake up the PC offense. Jake Pewitt started the inning with a base hit and after a failed sacrifice attempt led to an out, Jack Wietlispach and Wes Minton followed with singles to load the bases. Pewitt would race home with the tying run on a wild pitch and Adam Casson broke the tie with a two-run single into right center. JW would score a single run in the top of the 7th but grounded out to short to end the game with the tying run on first.

Clay Manering (6-3) went the distance to earn the win allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out nine. Adam Casson paced the offense going 2-3 with 2 RBI while Wes Minton also had two hits for the victorious Cobras.

The Cobra made sure they would not need a late rally in game two as they scored seven times in the first two innings to take control of the game early. After Zach Hall retired the Blazers in order in the top of the 1st, PC would use a four-run inning to jump on top. With one out Wietlispach walked, Wes Minton singled and Casson made it 1-0 with an RBI single. Bobby Burns and Joey Migliaccio followed with RBI singles of their own and the final run came home on a Nolan Wilson sacrifice fly to center. PC would score three more times in the 2nd with Migliaccio driving in a pair and Wilson chasing home another run on ground ball to second. Meanwhile PC starter Zach Hall was setting down the Blazers allowing just 1 run on 5 hits in six innings of work to improve to (6-3) on the season. Brian Krolikowski and Mark Hode worked the final three innings to preserve the win. Casson came up big again for the Cobra offense with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Jake Pewitt also had three hits while Migliaccio, Minton, and Landon Weitekamp all had two.

The wins move PC to (35-17 25-5) while John Wood falls to (33-16 14-14). PC can earn a share of the M-WAC title if they sweep JWCC on Saturday. A loss in either game would mean Heartland would earn the title outright.

Parkland gets revenge, sweeps #1 Heartland

A day after picking up a couple of late game losses to the top ranked Hawks, Parkland showed they will still be a force to reckon with in the post-season as they swept the Hawks 3-2 and 4-1. The victories keep PC in the race for the M-WAC title with one weekend remaining.

After a rough first inning that saw HCC score a pair of runs, taking advantage of starting pitcher Bo Weir's wildness, both Weir and his teammates settled in a groove for the rest of the afternoon. Still down 2-0 in the 4th, PC would tie the game as Joey Migliaccio reached on a one-out single and Nolan Wilson followed with a single of his own. With two outs, Landon Weitekamp delivered an RBI single and the Cobras would load the bases on a walk to Jake Pewitt and an infield single by Kieston Greene. Jack Wietlispach then coaxed a walk from the HCC pitcher to force in a run and tie the game at 2. PC would break the tie in the 5th as Adam Casson reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice fly and scored from third on a deep fly ball by Wilson. Weir (6-1) would shut the Hawks down the rest of the way finishing with a two-hitter striking out five. Kieston Greene and Wilson each had two of the Cobras seven hits.

In game two, Josh Witt (6-0) was equally dominate as he limited HCC to just one run on three hits while striking out six. Witt was in control all the way as HCC could only tally a single run in the 3rd. PC threatened to score early but left the bases loaded in both the 1st and 2nd before finally breaking out in the third with a run on four consecutive singles by Wes Minton, Casson, Burns, and Wilson. The game would stay knotted at 1 until the bottom of the 6th when Landon Weitekamp hit his 2nd home run in as many days, this one a towering shot over the trees in left.

The Cobras would add two insurance runs late as Jake Pewitt walked and moved to third on an error by the Hawk pitcher. He would come home on a Wietlispach single and Jack would score as Wes Minton and Adam Casson followed with singles. Witt would then retire the Hawks in order to seal the win. Wietlispach had three of the Cobras 13 hits while Minton, Casson, Wietekamp, and Pewitt each had two for the Cobras who out hit HCC 21-5 on the afternoon.

The wins move PC to (33-17 23-5) while Heartland drops to (41-6 27-5). Parkland will wrap up the regular season next Friday when they face John Wood (33-14). A PC sweep would give the Cobras a share of the M-WAC title. As it is PC has wrapped up at least the #2 seed in the upcoming Region 24 Tournament.

Baseball falters late, miss chance for wins against #1 Hawks

The Parkland Baseball team had the lead into the middle and late part of both games on Saturday but could not hold on as they dropped a twin bill to #1 Heartland by the scores of 4-3 and 7-5.

In the opener, starters Clay Manering and Aaron Hauge battled putting up goose eggs on the score board until the Cobras drew first blood in the 4th scoring an unearned run after an Aaron Vaught error. PC made it 2-0 after Landon Wietekamp delivered a solo home run before the Hawks finally got to Manering in the 6th. The foursome of Michael Failoni, Chad Klein, Andrew McCafferty, and Alex Ludwig each drove in a run to give a HCC a two run cushion. PC was able to score in the 7th but the rally fell a run short. Hauge (7-1) earned the win and Clint Stroud earned his 8th save while Manering took the loss dropping to (5-3).

The second game followed a similar script as PC grabbed the early lead only to see HCC win it with a late rally. After the Hawks scored a run in the first, the Cobras struck for three runs of their own as Kieston Greene delivered the big hit a two-run single. The score would remain at 3-1 as PC starter Zach Hall and HCC starter Jeremy Stawychny were locked in a pitcher's duel. Unfortunately the Cobra bullpen was not as effective as the Hawks roughed up a pair of relievers for six runs over the final two innings to get for the victory.

Trailing 7-3 going to their final at bat, Parkland would rally loading the bases with just one out. Hawk reliever and winner Ryan Byrne (3-0) would get a strikeout of Adam Casson before Bobby Burns kept the game alive with a two-run single. Byrne was able to sit down Joey Migliaccio on strikes for the final out of the ball game to complete the sweep. Burns and Kieston Greene each went 3-5 with 2 RBI to pace the Cobra attack. Jake Pewitt added two more hits for PC which out hit the Hawks 13-9 in the contest but stranded 10 base runners to just 5 for HCC.

The wins moves Heartland to (41-4 27-3) while the Cobras fall to (31-17 22-6). The two teams are set to meet again on Sunday this time at 1:00 in Champaign.

Cobra Baseball picks up two more wins over Lincoln on "Strike Out Cancer Day"

The Parkland College Baseball team battled the cool wet elements on Sunday afternoon but used late surges to sweep Lincoln 12-6 and 13-3. The four game sweep of the Lynx runs the Cobras to a season-high 10 game winning streak.

In the opener, PC broke out early scoring three in the 2nd and three more in the 4th to take a 6-2 lead before Lincoln would tie the game with a four run outburst of their own in the top of the 5th. Still tied in the bottom of the 6th, the Cobras would explode for six runs to cruise to the win. After the lead-off man was retired, Tom Hooker reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Wes Minton then followed with a line drive double into the gap to give PC the lead. After a walk to Adam Casson, PC got consecutive RBI hits from Bobby Burns, Joey Migliaccio, and Jack Wietelspach as well as a sacrifice fly from Landon Weitekamp to complete the scoring. James Naile (4-3) worked two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Starter Clay Manering worked 5 innings allowing three earned runs while walking one and striking out three. Joey Migliaccio paced the attack going 3-4 while Jake Pewitt had two hits and scored twice. Kieston Greene and Jack Wietelspach both drove in a pair of runs in the victory.

Lincoln jumped out to an early 3-0 lead off Cobra starter Josh Witt in game 2 but the Cobra sophomore settled down and blanked the Lynx over the final 5 innings. Witt allowed three runs on six hits while walking none and striking out eight to improve to (5-0) on the season. Down by three, PC struck back quickly scoring four times in the bottom of the 1st. Greene singled and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Wes Minton stroked a double to drive home green and Casson tripled to make it 3-2. Casson came home on a Lynx error before Nolan Wilson's double gave the Cobras the lead.

PC tacked on a single run in the 4th before scoring 8 runs over the final two innings. PC scored six times in the 5th, with Minton and Wilson both driving in 2 runs in the inning. Wilson would drive home his 4th run of the game in the 6th and Greene was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to end the contest after six innings. Wilson had his best game of the season going 3-4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored while Greene had three hits and scored three times. Minton, Casson, Burns, and Jake Pewitt all had two hits as PC banged out 15 in the game.

Strong pitching performances lead Cobras to sweep of Lynx

The Parkland College Baseball team rode two strong starting pitching performances to sweep Lincoln College 4-0 and 9-0 in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. Bo Weir tossed a one-hitter in the opener and Zach Hall gave up just two hits in the night cap to help PC earn the wins.

Bo Weir (5-1) nearly picked up his second no hitter of the season, allowing no hits for the first 6.1 innings, before Lincoln's Kenny May singled with one out in the seventh. Weir finished the game with a one-hitter, walking four and striking out 11. PC got on the board in the 4th when Adam Casson hit his first home run of the season, an opposite field shot, which gave PC a 1-0 lead. The Cobras tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Bobby Burns singled and stole second and scored on a Joey Migliaccio single. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Jake Pewitt laid down a perfect suicide bunt to score a run and Kieston Greene added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.

In the finale, Hall threw a gem of his own allowing just two hits while walking three and striking out eight to improve to (5-3) on the season. Offensively, PC would get on the board early, striking for two runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings. In the first, Kieston Greene started things off with a double and came home on a Wes Minton single. Minton would later score on a Migliaccio base hit. In the 3rd,, Jack Wietlispach reached on an error and later scored on an infield ground out off the bat of Casson. Later in the inning PC would once again use the combination of Burns and Migliaccio to pick up their fourth run of the game.

PC broke the game open in the 5th loading the bases via an error and two walks before Burns greeted the Lynx relief pitcher with a bases clearing double to left. The Cobras scored their final two runs the following inning as Wietlispach tripled and scored on a wild pitch and Minton doubled, went to third on another wild pitch, and scored on Casson's ground ball. Burns went 1-2 with 3 RBI, Migliaccio 3-4 with 2 runs driven in, while Minton had 2 hits and Wietlispach scored three times.

With the sweep,Parkland (29-15 19-3) runs their winning streak to eight games, tying it for their longest winning streak of the year. Lincoln drops to (24-17 11-11) and falls from 3rd to 5th place in the M-WAC while PC continues to hold down the second spot. The two teams will wrap up their series, weather permitting, on Sunday at 1:00 at Parkland. Sunday is also Strike-Out Cancer Day with the team wearing black and pinks hats.

Cobra Baseball "squeezes" out a pair of wins over rival Danville Area CC

Back to back squeeze bunts in the bottom of the 7th helped the Parkland Baseball team rally for a 7-6 win in game one and rode that momentum to an 8-3 win in game two, to sweep a doubleheader from DACC.

PC grabbed an early lead in the opener only to see the Jaguars claw away before eventually taking the lead in the 7th on a two-out single by Patrick Cottrell. The Cobras wouldn't die as Bobby Burns started the rally with a double into the gap in left center. Pinch hitter Jack Wietlispach followed with an infield single to put runners at the corners with nobody out. After an infield pop out, Landon Weitekamp laid down a squeeze bunt that the pitcher threw high to the plate allowing the tying run to score. Jake Pewitt followed with a perfectly executed squeeze of his own to give PC the dramatic win. James Naile (3-3) picked up the win working the final two innings in relief of starter Brett Haan who went 5 solid innings allowing just two runs while striking out three. Kieston Greene, Wes Minton, Bobby Burns, and Jake Pewitt all had two hits in the win. Ryan Black was 3-3 for DACC.

In game two,the Cobras tallied single runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to build a 3-0 lead only to see the Jaguars rally to tie the game with a three-run outburst with two outs in the 8th off starter Jason Ziegler. The Cobra lefty had blanked the Jaguars for 7.2 innings before departing in the 8th with a run in and a pair or runners on base. DACC greeted reliever Logan Shaftner with a double to the wall in left to tie the score but Shaftner struck out the next hitter to keep the game deadlocked.

It was all Cobras in the bottom of the inning as PC got to three DACC hurlers to score five times. Joey Migliaccio singled to start the inning and Nolan Wilson followed with a single to put runners at first and third. Landon Wietekamp followed with an infield chopper that the DACC shortstop made an off balance throw to the plate, allowing the eventual winning run to score. After Pewitt walked, Kieston Greene delivered the deciding blow with a bases clearing double. and two hitters later Greene would score the Cobras final run on a Wes Minton single. Shaftner (2-0) would retire three of the four hitters he faced in the 9th to pick up the win. Migliaccio was a perfect 4-4 at the plate scoring a pair of runs including the game winner while Minton added 3 hits and 2 RBI. Green had a pair of hits and 2 RBI while Jake Pewitt collected two hits in the Cobras 12-hit attack.

Parkland (27-15 17-3) will return to action this weekend when they play a four game series with Lincoln College. The Lynx will host two games on Saturday while the Cobras play host on Sunday starting at 1:00. DACC drops to (27-14 9-11) and will face off against John Wood over the weekend.

Baseball takes two, completes four-game sweep of Blazers

Two more strong pitching performances along with some timely hitting helped the Parkland Baseball team win a pair of games on Sunday to complete a four-game sweep of Lewis and Clark. PC won 6-4 and 10-2 after beating L&C 12-0 and 5-4 on Saturday.

In the first game, L&C jumped on top with a run in the 2nd but PC would come right back in the bottom of the inning as Landon Weitekamp drove in a run with an infield ground out. The Cobras would tally three runs in the 3rd as Wes Minton delivered a two-run double and Adam Casson an RBI single. After L&C clawed back with a two-run 5th, the Cobras would score two big runs in the 6th as Kieston Greene doubled off the wall to drive in a pair. Those runs proved to be big as the Blazers pushed across a run in the 7th but could get no closer. Clay Manering (5-2) earned the win allowing four runs on five hits while striking out 11. Greene had two hits and two RBI to go along with Minton's two RBI and Jake Pewitt who scored twice.

The Cobras would take no time in getting on the board in game two scoring three times in the 1st to put PC on top early. Greene was once again the catalyst for the Cobra offense getting the Cobras started with a lead-off home run, his second HR of the season. PC made it 4-0 in the 2nd on a Joe Trennepohl single and Joel Stucker hit his first career collegiate homer in the 5th to push the lead to 5-0. Parkland would put the game away in the 6th scoring four times as Tom Hooker also hit his first college home run and Trennepohl, Nolan Wilson, and Weitekamp all drove in runs in the inning. Alex Smith drove in the Cobras final run of the game with a single in the 8th. Four Cobras had two hits in the contest as Greene, Hooker, Trennepohl, and Wes Minton paced a 13 hit attack. Josh Witt (4-0) stayed perfect on the season allowing just two runs while striking out five in eight innings of work.

Parkland (25-15 15-3) will return to action on Wednesday when they host M-WAC rival Danville Area CC. Lewis and Clark falls to (11-27 3-17) with the defeats.

Cobra Baseball sweeps Lewis and Clark

The Parkland College Baseball team picked up a pair of road wins at Lewis and Clark on Saturday, beating the Blazers 12-0 and 5-4. The wins move PC to (23-15 14-4) while Lewis and Clark drops to (11-25 3-15). The two teams will wrap up their four-game series with two games Sunday at Parkland starting at 1:00.

It was all Cobras in the opener as Bo Weir (4-1) worked five scoreless innings striking out seven. He would get all the offensive support he would need in the 1st as PC scored three times with the help of a pair of L&C errors. Jeff Limbaugh, Bobby Burns, and Joey Migliaccio all drove in runs in the inning. PC would blow the game open with six runs in the 4th and ended the contest with a three-run third. Burns finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI while Adam Casson also had three hits and Kieston Greens added a pair.

PC had to battle to win game 2 as they held on for a one-run victory. The Cobras got on the board in the first as Wes Minton doubled and Limbaugh delivered a run-scoring single. After L&C scored three in the 2nd to take the lead, PC would cut into the lead scoring a run in the third when Tom Hooker walked, stole second, and came home on Adam Casson's single. The Cobras would regain the lead for good in the 5th as Limbaugh walked and moved to third on a single by Casson. Limbaugh would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Migliaccio and Casson would score on a wild pitch. PC added a much needed insurance run an inning later as Hooker scored on Minton's RBI double. Lewis and Clark tacked on a run in the 7th off winning pitcher Zach Hall (4-3) but James Naile pitched a perfect two innings of relief to earn the save and secure the win for the Cobras.

Blazers blitz Cobras with early outburst

The Vincennes University Baseball team hit the Cobras with a six-run first inning and never looked back as they blitzed PC 13-1 in a non-conference game in Champaign. The Blazers used six hits and a pair of walks off starter Jason Ziegler (1-1) in the first and added three more runs in the 2nd to put the game out of reach. Jake Roberts went 4-5 with 5 RBI and Alex Kohler added three hits and drove in three runs. Lucas Ray and Jake McMahan also had 3 hits as the Blazers pounded out 19 hits on the afternoon.

PC managed just one run on the day as Joe Trennepohl singled with one out in the 2nd, moved to second on a ground ball and scored on an RBI double by Landon Weitekamp. The Cobras managed only five hits on the afternoon. Cobra reliever Jesse Remington was a bright spot in the game for the Cobras as he came out of the bullpen to work four solid innings of relief.

After a couple of days off, PC (21-15) will get back to M-WAC action as they travel to Lewis and Clark for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Cobras will host the Trailblazers on Sunday. VU hits the 30-win plateau for the third straight season as they improve to (30-15) with the win.

Baseball falls short vs D-1 power Wabash Valley

For the second time this season the Parkland College Baseball team put up an outstanding effort against a strong Wabash Valley team only to fall victim to a late home run, falling to the Warriors 3-2 this afternoon. PC lost 4-3 at WV earlier this season, when the Warriors rallied for three in the bottom of the 9th.

Although the outcome of this game was not quite as dramatic, it was equally disheartening. After Gabriel Roa drilled a pitch deep over the left field wall to begin the game off starter Clay Manering, the Cobra lefty found his groove allowing no more runs in six innings of work while striking out 7. Down 1-0 in the 4th, PC would tie it as Jeff Limbaugh singled in Wes Minton who started the inning with a triple. PC would grab the lead in the 6th as Limbaugh led off with a single, moved to 2nd on a sacrifice, and advanced to third on a single by Bobby Burns. Landon Weitekamp's infield ground out scored Limbaugh with the go-ahead run.

The Warriors would tie it in the 7th but PC was fortunate the inning wasn't worse. Harold Diaz started the inning by reaching on a two-base error by the Cobra leftfielder and came home on and RBI single by Brandon Ollett. After a bunt single put runners at 1st and 3rd, Roa hit a combacker to Cobra hurler Mark Hode who started a 1-6-3 doubleplay that did not allow the runner to score from 3rd. Brian Krolikowski relieved Hode and struck out AJ Dokey to end the threat.

Unfortunately for PC, the home run again came back to bite the Cobras as Cole Gleason hit an opposite field home run to start the 8th inning as WV regained the lead. PC would threaten in the bottom of the 8th as Jeff Limbaugh started the inning with a single, his 3rd of the game. but could not advance past second base and PC was retired in order in the 9th by Connor Fisk to save the win for the Warriors.

Parkland (21-14) will jump back into action with another 3:00 game on Wednesday when they host Vincennes University. Wabash Valley improves to (36-8) with the win.

Baseball takes two from #7 Madison College

Just a day after a disappointing split at Shawnee, the PC Baseball team played their best doubleheader of the year in sweeping #7 Madison College 9-2 and 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at PC. The Wolfpack, who finished 3rd at the 2011 NJCAA D-2 World Series, entered the day on a 10 game winning streak having out scored their opponents 52-4 during that stretch.

On this Sunday, it would be all Cobras thanks to outstanding starting pitching, a strong defensive, and execution on offense. In the opener, PC jumped out early on Madison ace Paul Poirier who came into the game off two straight shutouts and had a team low 1.59 ERA. With one out in the first, Tom Hooker and Wes Minton singled and Hooker scored on an Adam Casson single that got by the left fielder. Jeff Limbaugh made it 2-0 as he scored Minton on an infield ground out. PC would take advantage of two, two out miscues in the 2nd. After the first two were retired, Jake Pewitt and Kieston Greene reached on errors and both came on hits by Hooker and Minton.

After MATC cut the lead to 4-1, PC would score four times on just two hits in the 4th as the Cobras took advantage of a walk and two more errors. The top of the order was the key for PC in the win as Greene the lead-off hitter scored three times and the next three hitters in the line-up; Hooker, Minton and Casson each collected two hits. Josh Witt (3-0) went the distance to earn the win. The Cobra sophomore scattered six hits allowing two runs while walking none and striking out three. He retired the final nine hitters in order to seal the win.

PC used a four-run fourth and an outstanding outing from Brett Haan (2-1) to shutout the Wolfpack in game two. Haan threw six scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out three. He gave way to Mark Hode in the 7th who allowed a single while striking out the final two hitters of the ball game.
The Cobras used small ball in the 4th to break the game open. After Wes Minton reach on an error, Adam Casson reached on a bunt single. Joey Migliaccio singled in a run and with the bases loaded, two runners came home on a wild pitch. Jake Pewitt followed with an RBI single to put the Cobras ahead 4-0. Offense hard to come by as Cobras split with Shawnee

A long trip south got a little longer on Saturday as the Cobra bats never woke up and PC split a doubleheader with Shawnee. Parkland won the opener 5-3 before falling in the finale 4-2.

In game 1, PC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 2nd as Joel Stucker lead off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and came home on a Jake Pewitt single. The Cobras maintained that lead until the 5th when the Saints would score twice off Cobra starter Bo Weir. With two outs and a runner on second, Weir struckout lead off hitter Lance Starkey but the ball went back to the screen to put runners at the corners, Weir hit the next batter before Chase Montfort hit a two-run single to give SCC the lead.

PC would tie it in the sixth when Cobra catcher Bobby Burns cracked a solo home run. Weir worked out of a 1st and 3rd one out jam in the bottom of the inning, before being pulled for reliever James Naile. Weir allowed 2 runs on five hits while striking out 11 in six innings of work. After neither team scored in the 7th, PC would break out with a three-run 8th. After a pair of walks to start the inning, both runners moved up on a ground out and Joey Migliaccio came home on a balk. PC would then load the bases and score on singles by Pewitt and Kieston Greene. Shawnee would not die easily as the first three men reached in the bottom of the 8th, but Naile (2-3) would get two strikeouts and an infield ground out to end the uprising. Six of PC's ten hits came from the first two spots in the order as Pewitt went 4-4 reaching base five times and Greene was 2-3 with walk and sacrifice bunt.

PC would waste a strong outing by Zach Hall in game 2 as the Cobra defense allowed a pair of unearned runs and could not get anything going offensively. Both team scored in the first and the game remain tied until the 5th when the Cobras would break the tie. Landon Weitekamp walked, was sacrificed to second, stole 3rd coming home on an error by the Saints catcher. The lead was short lived as SCC scored twice in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead and added an insurance run in the 6th. PC would put the tying run on base in the 7th but Minton grounded out to second to end the game.

Cobras-Jaguars battle to split

The Parkland Men's Baseball team missed out on a golden opportunity to pick up a sweep on Wednesday afternoon but had to settle for a split with rival Danville Area Community College. The Cobras rode the arm of Clay Manering to pick up a 3-0 win the opener but let a 4-0 lead slip away in game 2 as the Jaguars scored on a two-out single in the bottom of the 9th to rally for a 6-5 win.

Manering was magnificent in the first game as he went the distance in tossing a two hit-shutout. The sophomore lefty allowed just two singles while allowing no walks and striking out seven as he improved to (4-2) on the season. The Cobras would score single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings to give him all the offense he would need. Landon Weitekamp stroked an RBI single in the 2nd to put the Cobras on the board. In the third Kieston Greene singled to lead off the inning and scored as Joey Migliaccio doubled. Bobby Burns earned a bases loaded walk to force home a run to plate PC's final run of the contest. Migliaccio paced the offense with two of the Cobras five hits.

Parkland would jump on top early in game two as they struck for three runs in the third inning. Nolan Wilson had a two-run double and Joel Stucker an RBI single for the big hits in the inning. PC made it 4-0 in the 3rd when Jeff Limbaugh reached on a two-out single and scored when Migliaccio's single got by the Jaguar centerfielder. DACC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning taking advantage of two Cobra errors to make it 4-2.

PC would score their final run of the day on a Jeff Limbaugh single to stretch the lead back to three but unfortunately for PC their defensive woes continued as DACC scored two runs in the 5th capitalizing on two more Cobra errors. The Jaguars would then tie it in the 6th on Conner Allen's single. Both teams had chances to score over the next two innings but it was DACC who would finally deliver. With one out Zane Dillon singled and Seth Vautaw was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Cody Burnton dropped a single in front of a diving Kieston Greene in centerfielder for the game winner. Burton, Dillon, and Ryan Black each had two hits for the winning Jaguars while Limbaugh and Migliaccio each had two hits for the Cobras.

Parkland now stands (18-12 11-3) while DACC is (20-10 3-7). PC will travel to Shawnee for a Region 24 doubleheader on Saturday before hosting #7 Madison College in a pair of games on Sunday. DACC will travel to Spoon River for a four game series over the weekend.

Cobras rally to secure sweep of Spoon River

The games could not have been more different, but the results were the same, as the Parkland Baseball team swept Spoon River 15-0 and 11-8 on Friday afternoon in Champaign. PC rode strong pitching in the opener to win a shortened game and overcame defensive miscues with a patient offense and strong relief pitching to rally for the win in game two.

Clay Manering and Mark Hode combined to shutout the Mudcats on just two hits as PC made quick work of the visitors in the first contest. Manering improve to (3-2) allowing just a bad hop single in four innings of work. The sophomore lefty walked two and struck out seven. Hode worked the final inning allowing a hit and striking out a pair.

Offensively, PC used a 12 hit attack to score 15 times with seven coming in the 2nd and five more scoring in the 4th. Joe Trennepohl got things started with a two-run 1st inning single. Bobby Burns had the big hit with a bases clearing triple in the 2nd, and pinch hitter Brad Wheeler drove home two with a double in the fourth. Burns, Trennepohl, Jeff Limbaugh, and Joel Stucker all had two hits in the win. Trennepohl also added 4 RBI while Burns plated three.

The nightcap was a much different affair as the Cobras allowed SRC to score seven times in the 3rd inning on just two hits. Spoon was aided by four Cobra errors, two walks, and a hit batsmen in the inning. Trailing 7-1, PC began to chip away scoring three times in the third. SRC answered back to make it 8-4 but the Cobras would once again score three runs, this time in the 5th, as Brennan Kwiatowski and Joe Trennepohl drove in runs

PC finally tied the game in the 6th as Kieston Greene delivered a big RBI double scoring Alex Smith.
In the 7th, PC finally regained the lead taking advantage of a walk and two SRC errors leading to a Landon Weitekamp sacrifice fly. The Cobras would add two big insurance runs in the 8th as Tom Hooker and Greene started the inning with base hits, moved up on fly ball to center, and scored on pinch hitter Bobby Burns two-run single to right;. Winning pitcher James Naile (1-2) worked the final three innings allowing no runs and just two hits, both who were wiped off the base paths by double plays. PC got three outstanding defensive plays form second baseman Alex Smith to help keep SRC off the board. Fellow reliever Logan Shaftner kept the Cobras in the game working 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out four in relief of the PC starter.

Tom Hooker had three hits and scored three times, Kieston Greene added 3 hits, 3 runs scored and a pair of RBI, and Joe Trennepohl went 3-5 with 2 RBI and scored twice to pace the Cobra attack.

Parkland (15-11 8-2) will play two more games against Spoon River (6-15 0-6) tomorrow at 1:00 at Canton High School.

Hall one-hitter leads Cobras to split with Lincoln Land

Sophomore Zach Hall tossed a complete game one-hitter, to help the Parkland Baseball team to a 2-1 win in the opening game of a doubleheader in Springfield. The Loggers rocked PC with four home runs in a 17-8 rout in the finale to earn in a split of the four game series.

Hall gave up just one hit, a double in the first, to even his record at (2-2) on the season. The lefty walked two and struck out nine Loggers to earn the win. PC struck first scoring a run in the 3rd on a walk, sacrifice bunt, and an error by the LLCC pitcher. Lincoln Land tied the game in the bottom of the inning without the benefit of a hit. Hall walked back to back hitters and after a double steal, LLCC tied the score on a ground out. The game remain tied until the 5th when the Cobras scored the game winning run. After the first two were retired, Kieston Greene singled and raced home on a Wes Minton double. Greene finished with 3 of the Cobras seven hits.

The second game was all Loggers as Cobra starter Brian Krolikowski could not retire a hitter in the first inning, allowing 5 runs to cross the plate. A pair of PC relievers did not fair much better alllowing 12 runs over the next 5 innings. Despite the pitching woes, the Cobras had their chances banging out 14 hits of their own but stranded 11 runners to just 2 by LLCC. Kieston Greene had three more hits including a home run and drove in a pair of runs while Jake Pewitt, Nolan Wilson, and Joel Stucker each had a pair of hits. Jeff Limbaugh had three hits and scored twice while Landon Weitekamp drove in a pair.

Parkland stands at (13-11 6-2) while Lincoln Land, is now (15-8 4-4). PC will play at JV game on Tuesday at PC against the UI Club team before facing Spoon River in a four-game M-WAC series this Friday and Saturday.

Greene's single in bottom of 9th helps Cobras earn split with rival Lincoln Land

The Parkland College Baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to beat Lincoln Land 4-3 to salvage a split of their doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Loggers used a late rally of their own scoring 5 times in their final at bat to beat the Cobras 7-5 in the first game.

PC jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in game two as Kieston Green walked, stole second, and advanced to third before coming home on a Wes Minton double. Minton would put PC up by two when he scored on a Jeff Limbaugh double. The Loggers bounced back with solo runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings to grab a 3-2 lead before PC would tie the game in the 7th. PC used a hit batsmen, single, a Logger error and a passed ball to score the tying run. In the 9th, after a line-out to start the inning, pinch hitter Bobby Burns walked and Jack Wietlispach followed with a base on balls of his own. Ryan Oltorik's single to left appeared to win it for the Cobras but Alex Smith was thrown out at the plate trying to score. Fortunately, Green followed with a single of his own chasing home Wietlispach with the game winning run. Brad Reedy (1-1) earned the win with three stellar innings of relief. The Cobra sophomore allowed no runs on just one hit while striking out five in shutting down the visitors down the stretch. Reedy relieved starter Jason Ziegler who pitched a solid six inning allowing three earned runs.

PC looked like it was going to cruise to a win in the opener but the Loggers rallied late to stun the hosts. After LLCC grabbed an early 1-0 lead PC scored three times in the second as Joey Migliaccio delivered a two-run double and later scored when Tom Hooker reached on an error. The Loggers answered back with a run in the 3rd but PC would score single runs in the 3rd and 4th to grab a 5-2 lead. Adam Casson drove home one of those runs with a sacrifice fly while the other run scored on another Logger error.

The Cobras retained their three run lead as starter Clay Manering kept the Loggers off the board until the deciding 7th. Cory Fanning started the inning with a solo home run to center before two singles and a walk sandwiched around a strike out knocked Manering from the game. Reliever James Naile was summoned from the pen but walked the first hitter he faced to force in a run to cut the lead to 5-4. It looked like the Cobras might survive after Naile struck out Jake Ingold for the second out of the inning but Jarod Pellman delivered a single thru the right side of the infield to drive in the tying and eventual winning run. Seth Hale gave LLCC an important insurance run as he doubled chasing home Pellman. PC would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame but Wietlispach grounded into a force out to end the game.

PC (12-10 5-1) will travel to Springfield for two more games against Lincoln Land (14-7 3-3) on Sunday at 1:00.

ICC would get the lead off man on but reliever Josh Witt got a strike out and double play to end the ball game. Jason Ziegler (1-0) was the deserving winner as the Mahomet-Seymour freshman worked 4.2 strong innings of relief allowing just two hits while striking out seven. PC Baseball takes three to end Myrtle Beach trip with a bang

The Parkland College Baseball team took advantage of strong pitching, timely hitting, and an improving defense to take the final three games at the Ripken Classic in South Carolina. After losing the first two games of the trip, PC won the final four games to inch the Cobras (7-8) closer to the .500 mark with M-WAC play set to begin this weekend.

PC knocked off North Central Missouri 6-2, courtesy of a four-run 7th inning. Tied at 2 going to the 7th, Wes Minton got the rally going with a one-out single. He would score the go-ahead run on a Jeff Limbaugh single and Limbaugh raced home on an RBI single by Bobby Burns. Landon Weitekamp drove in the final two runs with a triple. Burns led the offense going 3-4 while Kieston Green also added two hits. Reliever Josh Witt (1-0) earned the win pitching a scoreless final two innings in relief of Zach Hall who allowed just one earned run in five innings of work.

PC followed up that victory with a hard fought 4-2 win over Mercer CC of New Jersey. Brian Krolikowski (1-1) picked up the win scattering eight hits in 5.1 innings of pitching. Logan Shaftner worked the final 1.2 innings to earn the save. Offensively the Cobras used a balanced attack with seven starters getting a hit. PC grabbed an early 2-0 lead as Joey Migliaccio delivered an RBI double and Jake Pewitt came through with an RBI single of his own. After Mercer tied in their half of the third, PC would answer right back with two more runs. Jeff Limbaugh opened the inning with a single and Burns followed with a double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Migliaccio put the Cobras ahead for good with a run scoring single and Weitekamp's sacrifice fly scored the final run.

The Cobras closed out the trip with a 9-0 shutout of Garrett CC of Maryland. Brett Haan (1-1) dominated the Garrett hitters tossing a hitless five innings before exiting the game due to a high pitch count. Dylan Reid worked his way out of a self made jam in the 6th and Mark Hode finished the game by pitching a perfect 7th to secure the win. The Cobras scored early and often tacking on a run in the first, two more in the second, and blowing the game wide open with a five run third.

Tom Hooker was the Cobra hitting star going 3-4 with 4 runs batted in on the day and Bobby Burns continued his strong play at the plate going 3-3 with a pair of runs scored. PC took the early lead as Kieston Greene doubled and scored on a Minton single. Burns and Adam Casson both singled in the second and scored on a two-run single off the bat of Hooker. In the five run third, Joey Migliaccio drove in a pair, two more came home on a Joe Trennepohl single, and he scored on Hooker's RBI single. Hooker drove home Alex Smith in the 5th for the Cobras final run of the game.

The Cobras will begin M-WAC play this Saturday and Sunday with a pair of double headers against Illinois Central College. PC will travel to East Peoria on Saturday before hosting the Cougars on Sunday. Like PC, ICC has played an extremely difficult early season schedule and find themselves (4-14) ahead of a Wednesday doubleheader with Mineral Area.

Parkland splits pair of games in South Carolina

#6 Lackawanna pushed across a run in extra innings and held on for a 3-2 win over Parkland in the early game on Saturday morning, avenging a defeat at the hands of the Cobras earlier this season. In their second game of the day, PC rode the arm of sophomore Bo Weir to shut out Lakeland OH. 4-0 to give the Cobras a split on the day.

Weir went the distance against Lakeland allowing just three hits while walking one and striking out eight. His teammates would give him all the runs support he would need scoring twice in the 3rd. Landon Weitekamp started the inning off with a double and came home on a Kieston Greene single. Jake Pewitt scored the second run of the inning on an RBI ground out off the bat of Wes Minton. PC made it 3-0 in the 5th when Pewitt once again reached base, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on another Minton ground out. The Cobras scored their final run of the contest in the 6th whenWeitekamp doubled home Nolan Wilson who had walked. PC kept the pressure on Lakeland all afternoon stealing five bases in the victory.

In the opener, Clay Manering pitched 5 solid innings allowing just two runs, one earned, while striking out six. Jason Ziegler followed Manering into the game and work 1.1 scoreless innings before giving way to Brad Reedy. Reedy was tagged with the loss after giving up a run in 1.2 innings of relief. PC had plenty of chances in the game as their top three hitters went a collective 7-9 in the game. Wes Minton delivered three hits including a double and a triple while Pewitt and Greene each went 2-3. Despite the seven hits at the top of the line-up, PC could not get a clutch RBI as they dropped the extra inning affair.

Parkland (4-8) will play two more games on Sunday, going up against North Central Missouri at Noon followed by a game against Mercer CC of New Jersey.

Cobras lose early lead, fall to #17 Iowa Central

The Parkland College Baseball team raced out to an early 4-0 lead Saturday but couldn't hang on losing to #17 Iowa Central 8-5. The Cobras struck early as Kieston Greene and Jake Pewitt opened the bottom of the first with singles. After a Triton balk, Greene scored on a Minton ground out and Pewitt raced home as Limbaugh also grounded out. In the second, PC scored two more in the 2nd on a two-run single by Pewitt.

Iowa Central answered back to tie the game in the third scoring four runs and grabbed the lead with a solo run in the 4th off starting and losing pitcher James Naile (0-1). Mark Hode and Will Polley kept the Tritons off the board in the 5th and 6th before the Cobra defense fell apart in the 7th. PC made two key errors allowing for three unearned runs as Iowa Central took an 8-4 lead. PC scratched across a single run in the 7th on a Kevin Koziol double.

Parkland (3-7) will face #6 Lackawanna PA at 9:00 on Saturday before going up against Lakeland OH. at Noon. Iowa Central improved to (16-5) with their second win of the season over the Cobras.

Baseball wins home opener

The Parkland Baseball team managed just 5 hits, but used a combination of hits, walks, and Illinois Valley errors to down the Apache 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Champaign. Logan Shaftner picked up his first collegiate win, going 4.1 innings of hitless relief of starter Brett Hahn. Brad Reedy picked up the save getting the final two out with two men on base. Joey Migliaccio collected two of the Cobras five hits. The win improves PC to (3-6) as the team heads south to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Cobras will play 5 games in four days before returning to Illinois to begin M-WAC play.

Baseball bats come to life as Cobras pound #18 Jefferson

Hopefully this is the game the Parkland Baseball team has been waiting for. The Cobras erupted for 14 runs on 19 hits, 11 for extra bases, as the Cobras pounded Jefferson College 14-3. After struggling out of the gate, PC needed a game like this to get the confidence back and today was just what the doctor ordered.

Wes Minton had a breakout game as the sophomore shortstop went 4-6 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Three other Cobra hitters also collected three hits in the game. First baseman Jeff Limbaugh went 3-5 with an RBI, Kevin Koziol 3-6 with a HR and 2 RBI, and Jake Pewitt finished 3-5 as well. Other hitters with big days included Bobby Burns who hit is 2nd home run in as many days and also drove in three runs, Jack Wietlispach added a triple, home run and 3 RBI, while Joe Trennepohl also drove in a pair of runs.

Clay Manering (1-1) picked up the win working 5 solid innings allowing just three runs on three hits as his teammates staked the Cobra lefty to a big early lead. Josh Witt worked the 6th before giving way to Jason Ziegler who worked the final three innings to earn the save. Ziegler continued his early dominance by not allowing a run and giving up just two hits.

Parkland moves to (2-6) on the season and hopes to open their home season with a single game against Illinois Valley at 3:00 on Wednesday before heading to South Carolina for five days. Jefferson drops to (14-4) after the defeat.

#18 Jefferson too much for Cobras

The Parkland Baseball team continued their killer early season schedule on Saturday traveling to D-1 power Jefferson College. The doubleheader marked the fifth time in seven games that the Cobras faced a nationally ranked foe and unfortunately the results were the same as the Cobras lost by the scores of 3-1 and 9-5.

In the opener, PC fell behind the host Vikings 2-0 but cut the deficit in half in the 5th when catcher Bobby Burns stroked a solo home run. Burns along with Kieston Greene were the lone Cobras to collect multiple hits in the game, both going 2-3. Unfortunately, PC was unable to scratch across an additional run and Jeff. Co added an insurance run in the 6th and held on for the win. Bo Weir (1-1) was the tough luck loser as he and two other PC hurlers combined to strike out 10 in the defeat.

Game two followed a familiar early season trend where Cobra defensive troubles allowed the opponent to take command early. Saturday was no exception as a pair of errors led to a 7-1 Jefferson lead after just two innings. Trailing 9-1, PC scored four times in the 4th to make a game of it but could not get any closer. First baseman Jeff Limbaugh was perfect at the plate going 3-3 with 2 RBI, Jack Wietelspach cracked a two-run home run in the 5th, and Joey Migliaccio added an RBI double.

Parkland (1-6) will try and right the ship on Sunday when they face Jefferson (13-3) in the final game of the series.

Cobras ready to open 2012 season

The #8 ranked Parkland College Baseball team will get the 2012 season underway this weekend when they travel to Tennessee for the Millington USA Stadium JUCO Classic. The Cobras will play 5 contests in three days including games against three nationally ranked foes.

For most programs, a 43-11 record and a top 10 national ranking at the end of last season would be a satisfying year but for a program with 2 National Championships and 6 World Series appearances in the previous 11 seasons, last year left a bitter taste in the mouths of the returning players. After seven months of hard work, Coach Matt Kennedy and his staff hope to guide their team back to Oklahoma and the NJCAA D-2 World Series. Kennedy, who has compiled an amazing (143-33) record in three seasons at the helm of the Cobras, is joined by an outstanding young staff.

Pitching Coach Evan DePotter returns for his second season as the PC pitching coach. In his first year, the Cobra hurlers compiled an ERA of 4.28 under his guidance and he helped develop his first All-American Jon Carlson (10-0 2.00 ERA), now pitching at High Point University. New to the Cobra staff are a pair of former players with World Series experience of their own. Kory Coe comes to PC after spending the past two seasons on the staff at Quincy University. Coe played for two seasons at Longview CC before finishing his career at QU. His primary responsibilities will be with the infielders and assisting with the hitters. Also new to the staff is Matt Wietlispach who is the team's strength and conditioning coach. Matt earned two trips to the NJCAA WS at Elgin CC before finishing his career at Niagara University.

This season, the strength of this Cobra team will most likely be on the mound. A trio of sophomores, Zach Hall (6-1), Clay Manering (4-1), and Bo Weir (3-2) will lead a talented and deep staff. At the plate, the Cobras return First Team All-American shortstop Wes Minton, who hit .420 with 6 home runs, 61 runs batted in, 60 runs scored, and 25 doubles last season. First baseman Jeff Limbaugh (.397 49 RBI) and third baseman Landon Wietekamp (.363) help lead a young but talented offense.

PC will open the season in a stadium which holds many wonderful memories for the program. The Cobras made four trips to USA Stadium in Millington which hosted the NJCAA WS from 1996-2008. Parkland made their first World Series appearance in 2001, won the Series in 2002, and were runner-up in 2005. At this weekends classic, PC is the lone team to have yet played a game. The #8 Cobras will open on Friday at 9 am against long time rival #20 Iowa Central (4-2) before facing off against Muscatine CC (0-4) at Noon. Saturday, PC goes up against #13 Lackawanna (0-3) at 10:00 am and Southeastern Iowa (4-2) at 4:30. They will wrap-up the tournament against D-1 power and #18 Eastern Oklahoma (8-4).

Parkland is scheduled to play their first 15 games on the road before opening at home on March 25 against Illinois Central College.

Koziol "Slams" Team Green to 4-1 Win, Series Title!

The Parkland Baseball Team saved its best performance for the last fall game of the year! In a series that was tied at two games apiece, Team Green and Team Gold both turned to their "aces" for a series title, but it was Kevin Koziol's bat that would steal the show!

In a game that saw both pitchers dominate from the first inning, it looked as if Team Green would come away with a hard fought win in the deciding game of the Green/Gold World Series. That was until Kevin Koziol would step to the plate in the 5th inning with the bases full. Weir would quickly work Koziol to a 0-2 count but could not put away the LSU transfer. After fouling off a couple tough pitches, Koziol would blast a fastball over the LF wall that gave Team Gold a 4-1 advantage and series victory!

Both pitchers showed their dominance in the deciding game. Weir, the tough luck loser, went 4.2 innings scattering five hits and striking out six. Manering proved to be a little tougher on Team Green hitters as he went a strong 5.2 innings scattering only four hits and striking out nine, while earning the victory.

The Green/Gold Series concludes the fall season for the Cobras Baseball Team. The Cobras open up the 2012 spring season on March 2nd in Millington, TN.

Team Gold Forces Game 5 with 6-2 Win

On a windy Friday afternoon, Team Gold knotted up the Green/Gold World Series with a 6-2 victory. Team Green starter Josh Witt couldnt catch a break as he was the victim of his defense making three errors and timely hitting from Team Gold.

Team Gold starter, Brian Krolikowski, would earn the victory by tossing five strong innings, allowing only three hits and striking out eight. Krolikowski did not allow a run. Team Gold was led offensively by its top four hitters in the lineup as they went a combined 8-15. Leadoff man, Kieston Green stayed hot with a 2-4 performance while Joey Migliaccio (2-4, two doubles, two RBI), Kevin Koziol (3-4 with 2 RBI) and Jeff Limbaugh (1-3 with RBI) would supply all the offense that Krolikowski would need.

Team Green was led once again by Bobby Burns (2-3 with a HR) and Adam Casson (2-3). The rest of the lineup was a combined 2 for 21.

A deciding Game 5 will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday afternoon where Bo Weir (Team Green) and Clay Manering (Team Gold) will take the hill.

Team Gold Avoids Sweep, Wins 8-2

What started out as a pitcher's dual, quickly turned into a lopsided victory for Team Gold on Wednesday afternoon. Brett Haan (Gold) and Zach Hall (Green) stole the spotlight in the early stages of Game 3. Hall left with a 2-0 lead after his four innings of work where he would only allow one hit. The bullpen would quickly give that lead way as Team Gold took advantage of every mistake Team Green and its pitching staff would make. Team Greens bullpen was tagged for 8 runs (7 earned) as they allowed five hits and walked six. Freshman Dylan Reid was tagged for the loss as he failed to record an out as he allowed one hit and walked three.

Team Gold starter, Brett Haan would allow two runs in the first inning before settling in to earn the victory. Haan tossed 4.2 innings allowing six hits, four in the first inning, and striking out four. Freshman RHP, Logan Shaftner would pitch the final 2.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out three. Team Gold had strong performances at the plate from Kieston Greene (2-4 with a double and SB), Kevin Koziol (1-3, 2 runs scored) and Jack Weitlispach (1-2 with a double).

Team Gold was led at the plate by Bobby Burns (3-3) and Joe Trennepohl (1-2 with an RBI).

Game 4 is scheduled for 3:30 on Friday afternoon.

Team Green Takes 2-0 Lead in Series with 5-1 Victory

Team Green took a commanding 2-0 lead in the Green/Gold World Series by taking advantage of miscues by Team Gold on Monday afternoon. The pitching matchup between two sophomore southpaws lived up to expectations as Bo Weir (Team Green) and Clay Manering (Team Gold) took the hill for their respected squads.

Manering (Team Gold) would be the tough luck loser as he pitched 3.1 innings allowing only 3 hits, 2 runs (1 ER) and striking out 5. Manering was not helped out by his defense which committed 2 errors which led to Team Green's five run 4th inning. In addition to rocky defense, Team Gold could only come up with 4 hits in Game 2, two of which came off the bat of freshman Jack Wietlispach.

Bo Weir picked up the win for Team Green by going 4 strong innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 4. Sophomore Mark Hode pitched the final 3 innings of the game allowing 1 run on 3 hits and also recording 3 strike outs. Offensively, freshman Adam Casson stayed hot as he was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Sophomore SS Westley Minton also collected 2 RBI while sophomore 3B Landon Weitekamp also was 2-3 for Team Green.

Game 3 will be played on Wednesday October 12th. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.

Team Green Scores Early and Often in Game 1 Route

Team Green took control of Game 1 of the Green/Gold World Series from the first pitch on their way to a 12-0 smashing of Team Gold. Team Green scored 3 runs in the first inning off Team Gold starter, Brian Krolikowski, and never looked back. Offensively, Team Green was led by a trio of freshman Joe Trennepohl (3-5 with 4 RBI), Adam Casson (2-5 with 2 RBI) and Ryan Oltorik (2-4 with 2 RBI). Sophomore, Jake Pewitt was also 3-5 with 2 runs scored.

Sophomore Josh Witt got the win in the series opener by going 4.1 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 3. Freshman Josh Ulrey came in out of the bullpen and picked up were Witt left off by pitching 3.2 innings and allowing only 2 hits himself. Freshman Dan Leake pitched the final inning for Team Green by pitching 1 inning allowing one hit.

Team Gold will try to even up the series on Monday afternoon when sophomore Clay Manering takes the mound for Team Gold while sophomore Bo Weir will take the bal for Team Green. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
