Physical Science AS

What you'll do:
Astronomy is about studying the entire universe: Imagine the thrill of scientific discovery as you unlock the secrets of the cosmos, from the births of stars to black holes to the fate of the universe itself. At Parkland, you receive an overview of Astronomy that you can transfer to a four-year institution; AST 101 and AST 102 fulfill Illinois Articulation Initiative physical science transfer requirements for most programs. We offer night observing sessions and a chance to learn the night sky through time spent in our very own William M. Staerkel Planetarium, the second largest planetarium in Illinois.

Where you'll go:
Professional Astronomers are highly trained in mathematics and physics, giving them excellent job prospects in a variety of fields. In Astronomy itself, jobs range from university professorships to research positions at governments labs to consulting work for NASA, politicians, mass media, and Hollywood.
